Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all. 

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen. 

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

The first book I read this month was The Young Elites by: Marie Lu. I don't know how I feel about this book, before this book was even released I was skeptical about reading it. As a reader and lover of high fantasy books I was a little disappointed, I feel like I might have put my expectations too high just because when ever I see or read a fantasy book I expect the following, great world building, and dense and descriptive writing to help us understand everything. Fantasy books usually have a very confusing and unique world and what comes with that is ALOT of story telling. With this book I felt confused with the world as well as some of the characters. This book was a little underdeveloped. However, I did enjoy Marie Lu's writing style because it had more of an elegance to it. In my opinion, I did not feel like I was reading a fantasy book, it felt like a dystopian book set in a renaissance time period with teenagers with magical powers. There are quite a few similarities with this book and other dystopians especially with the corrupt government but there wasn't really a complete separation with this world and other dystopians. It just felt too modern, when you are writing fantasy books you can have so much freedom with the fantastical element and sadly Marie didn't take that path. I would rate this book a 3 out of 5 stars just because I feel it has more potential for later books.

Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter's whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.

After. Nothing is ever the same.

The second book I read this month was Looking For Alaska by: John Green. I went into this book expecting everything to be spectacular and so original, but I was let down sadly. I couldn't connect with the characters and the storyline was just a little average for me. I was so disappointed that I rated it a 2.8 out of 5 stars. :( If you would like to read more of my thoughts, I have written a review for this book and it will be posted next month on March 5th, 2015.
