April/May Wrap Up | Faith

I am combining my April and May wrap up because I literally only read one book in April and it was only for our book club.

The first book I read this month was Loki's Wolves by: K.L. Armstrong & M.A. Marr. Loki's Wolves is the Bookish Randomz book club of the month! Our theme this month was Mythology. I really love Norse mythology, so I quite enjoyed reading this book especially since there were illustrations! I could definitely see the similarities with Percy Jackson though, and I found the terminology a little weird sometimes. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

The first book I read in May was Calamity by: Brandon Sanderson. This is the third book in the Reckoners series. It took my nearly a month to finish this book and I don't know why because I wasn't even in a reading slump. This book was amazing and the ending was very unexpected, Steelheart still remains my favourite in the series. If you really like X-MEN and movies with a lot of tech, check this one out! I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

The second book I read was Firstlife by: Gena Showalter. Long story short, I didn't like it. There were just so many factors about this book that I just didn't like. You can read my review HERE.

The third book I read this month was Air Awakens by: Elise Kova. I have been wanting to read this book for a very long time, and haven't gotten a chance until now! This book was so good, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

My review will be up on June 9th!

The fourth book I read this month was The Last Star by: Rick Yancey. This was actually our book clubs May book of the month.  The timing was a little odd but we wanted more people to be involved. This was probably my second favourite in the series, at first I was super sad about the ending but in time I learned and discovered that I couldn't see it ending any other way. The last page brought tears to my eyes, and not because the series was ending. It was such a bitter sweet ending, and I loved it. I thought that it was the perfect ending. I would rate this a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

TV Recommendations #2 | Faith

I really love watching TV shows. I have absolutely no control over how many episodes of a show I watch. I feel like I do watch a good variety of shows, and I am always trying to persuade others to watch the shows I watch. So I thought this would be a good type of post to do every once in a while when I don't have the time for a book review or other book related post.

"Arrow" and "The Flash" have some new superhero company in the CW's lineup with the addition of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow." After seeing what doom the future holds, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter realizes heroes alone are not enough to prevent the impending catastrophe that threatens not only the planet, but all of time itself. Tasked with recruiting both heroes and villains, Rip brings together a ragtag team of divergent talents, which includes Sara Lance, Jay Jackson, Ray Palmer, Hawkgirl, Captain Cold and Heat Wave.        - Wikipedia Synopsis
If you know me personally or just follow my rambles on twitter, you would know that I am a huge fan of DC Comics. The CW network has some fantastic TV shows based on the DC world including Smallville which ended in 2011, Arrow, The Flash and now Supergirl. DC's Legends of Tomorrow is basically a crossover show. It has characters from both The Flash and Arrow. Even though these characters came from another show, they still stand on their own in this show. It has one of the most addicting and interesting plot lines I have seen. If you haven't watched this show yet, and have not fully watched Arrow and The Flash, I wouldn't suggest watching this show but you still can. This show has many moments that are very significant to those particular shows, and it's a lot more fun when you understand those meaningful things that happen. I find that just like Arrow, it is a very character driven show. The events that happen with the characters motivate the characters, and it's great to watch.

A great thing about this show is that is has crossovers. There are actually has been crossovers between The Flash and Arrow which is something to look forward to. All of the shows are action packed and they have amazing story lines that keep you on the edge of your seat.

I hope you enjoyed reading this!

Firstlife - An Everlife Novel: Gena Showalter | Review | Faith

ONE CHOICE.
TWO REALMS.
NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t home to the boy she’s falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

TV Recommendations #1 | Faith

I really love watching TV shows. I have absolutely no control over how many episodes of a show I watch. I feel like I do watch a good variety of shows, and I am always trying to persuade others to watch the shows I watch. So I thought this would be a good type of post to do every once in a while when I don't have the time for a book review or other book related post.

Rescued after 15 years in a cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to reclaim her life by venturing to New York, where she experiences everyday life with wide-eyed enthusiasm. On a whim, she rents a room from Titus, a gay wannabe Broadway actor, who makes ends meet as a street performer in Times Square. The unlikely pair find they're well-suited to help each other out, with Titus reintroducing Kimmy to modern life, and her providing him with the inspiration that you should never give up. Together they'll make it through whatever life throws at them.

- Wikipedia Synopsis

Unbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt is a Netflix series. There are currently two seasons that are able to view. This TV show has recently become one of my favourite TV shows of all time, I watched both seasons in maybe a week or less. The show has me laughing every episode and it's just absolutely ridiculous. It has one of the strangest concepts as well but it is so addicting.

All of the actors that are on this show are absolutely brilliant. Another bonus (at least for me) is that there are many broadway stars that are either a regular on the show or they guest star. One of my favourite actors Tituss Burgess is one the show who originated the role of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid on broadway.

If you love cooky comedic shows, I'm sure that you would love this show. I would recommend this show if you have seen Jane the Virgin or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. This show is probably one of the most unique shows that I have watched, and it is absolutely hilarious. If you're not convinced, just please check out their unbelievable theme song, it is so catchy and amazing.

Blogging Tips with Faith | Tip #2

I always enjoy writing little posts like this, and I always find it a little bit difficult to write a lengthy post so I've decided to kind of have a series of mini posts containing one or two tips. This is also a way for me to post things when ever I don't have a book or movie review to post or another bookish related post. Hopefully these can come in handy. So let's get on with the tips!

Writing/Reviewing
If you're starting a book blog, a lot of your posts are probably going to be book reviews. It may not seem like it, but book blogging is time consuming. First of all, it takes time to read the book, then you have to analyze it, write and review your book and possibly go over and edit it. If you don't have the time to do something as simple as reviewing a book, maybe it's not the right time for you to start book blogging.

I feel like a big misconception that comes along with book blogging, bookstagramming etc is that you have to own an absurd amount of books. That is not true. You do not have to own a copy of the book to be able to read and review it. If you can't afford books, ebooks or audiobooks then your best choice would be going to the library. After all it is free.

There is one rule that I think that everybody should know. Your reviews are probably going to suck in the beginning. Believe me, I was terrible in the beginning and I still think my reviews still need work. As time goes on, your reviews and your writing will get better. But the only way for this to happen is to keep writing. Practise makes perfect. If you're sitting around procrastinating writing a blogpost, and staying in the mindset that your posts aren't good enough, just get up and start writing. You will get better. And honestly, your posts/reviews are probably not has bad as you think they are.

Another thing I would like to mention is that you have to be careful not to summarise the entire book in your review. To be honest, I feel like a lot of do this in the beginning. If you want proof, please go in our blog archive and read any of my reviews from 2014.

What you should review
Reviewing books should be entirely up to you, after all it is your blog and it is your own space. Just because a certain genre of books is popular does not necessarily mean that you should be writing reviews for those books.

A great way to find books to review if you don't have many books to review in the moment are blog tours. Blog tours are a way to promote books for publishing companies as well as independent authors. I've only participated in very few, but I know it's a great way to be involved in the book community as well as get more blog traffic if that is what you are looking for.

Another way is to work with smaller publishing companies. I know there are some publishing companies out there who are constantly sending out emails from their mailing list asking for people to review books

Time
If you really want to make blogging one of your hobbies, it's best to make sure that you have time to do everything that comes along with blogging. It may not seem like it, but there is a lot of work that goes into blogging, especially the writing and reviewing aspect.

I hope you enjoyed reading these tips!
