Air Awakens: Elise Kova | Review | Faith

A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond...

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

This book was sent to me for review.

I have been wanting to read Air Awakens before it even came out, I kept seeing this book in my feed and it was getting amazing reviews. For a very long time I was not able to get a copy because I don't typically read e-books or shop on Amazon. As soon as I found out that there was going to be a tour for Elise Kova's books, I knew that I would want to sign up. Thankfully, I was accepted and I got to read and review this book, and let me tell you it was so good.

Air Awakens is the first book in the Air Awakens series, it is a great introduction to an enchanting magical world that is so fascinating to read about. I've always loved reading stories about the elements, so this book was right up my alley. One of the things that I absolutely loved about this entire book was the magic system. I did really know what to expect from it, but it was really well built and told. I loved learning the history and the origins as well.

Air Awakens is the classic story of a character finding their true self and what they were meant to be. That story has been done over and over, but the way it is done in this book was so refreshing to read about.

This book is so addicting. A lot of fantasy books can be difficult to read because the world is so complicated and the writing is dense, that is not the case with Air Awakens. I found this book to be really fast paced and easy to read. Everything that makes this book Air Awakens will just pull you into the story, and you won't be able to stop.

Another aspect of this book that I was fan of was the characters. Not only did they have unique names but they had these amazing qualities that I loved to read about. I don't know why but they just seemed so different from any other character that I have read about. Vhalla has to be one of my favourite characters. I find it so strange how as readers we love books but that quality is never usually reflected in many books that we read. I also loved how Vhalla had this deep love for books.

I would say that Air Awakens is a very clean read if that makes sense. It was so easy to fly through it due to the writing style, the characters and the world building. This book combined so many things that I loved, and it made for this amazing, amazing book that has me itching for more.

Overall, I loved this book. I am a little sad that it took me THIS long to read it but you know everything happens for a reason. If you love fantasy and the elements, I would highly suggest that you go and check this book/series out. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Elise Kova has always had a profound love of fantastical worlds. Somehow, she managed to focus on the real world long enough to graduate with a Master’s in Business Administration before crawling back under her favorite writing blanket to conceptualize her next magic system. She currently lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and when she s not writing can be found playing video games, watching anime, or talking with readers on social media. She is the author of the Air Awakens Series as well as the upcoming Loom Saga (Keymaster, 2017).
